How to Decide Who Will Best Represent You
“When Your Life Will Never Be the Same Again…”

Reputation for Care, Concern, and Competence

  • Select a firm that is highly respected by the legal community and former clients.  You can determine a firm’s reputation for care, concern, and competence the recognition, honors, and accolades an attorney has received; by his or her activities in the legal community; and the ratings received.
  • Pick a firm that other personal injury lawyers call for advice.   Select a firm that has served as faculty in training other lawyers, and has been published in the personal injury field.

Experience and Results

  • Choose an injury law firm that for decades has successfully represented the injured and the families of those killed.  Such a firm has been “around the block” with the adjusters, opposing counsel, physicians, and other experts that may become involved in your case
  • Choose a firm that has successfully obtained millions and multi-millions in major injury and death cases.

Avoid “turn ’em and burn ’em” high volume and “general practice” attorneys

  • Choose a firm that carefully accepts only a select number of major injury and death cases.  A firm that must represent everyone who calls with small or large claim in order to pay for huge advertising expenses is not likely to be able to devote the attention and resources major cases require.  A firm that carefully chooses to represent a select number of persons suffering major injury or death of a loved one knows the effect of devastating losses and cares about the change in the quality of your life.  A major injury causes physical and emotional pain and impairment.  Major injury often involves stress, depression, permanent disability, disfigurement, the loss of a job or the ability to work, financial hardship, a strain on family relationships, and compromise of the ability to perform everyday tasks, as well as impairment of our quality and enjoyment of life.  Death of a loved one is a wound that does not heal.
  • Also, be wary of the general practice attorney who wrote your Will or did your neighbor’s divorce.  Be aware that the jack-of-all-trades is often master of none.  Personal injury law is too complicated, too full of landmines, and too evolving to entrust your family’s future to a generalist who may not be as familiar with the law in this area.  The right legal representation is just as critical as the right medical care to put an injured person’s life back together..

The Babich Law Firm

IN FOUNDING THIS FIRM OVER 30 YEARS AGO, I wanted it to be the voice for the injured — dedicated to helping people whose lives will never be the same again,” explains Bill Babich of The Babich Law Firm. Over the ensuing three decades, Bill Babich has garnered numerous accolades from his peers and clients for his creativity, tenacity, and excellence in his relentless pursuit of justice on behalf of members of the community who have suffered major injuries or the loss of a family member. “By design, my firm is not a high-volume operation,” Mr. Babich says.  “We are in the fortunate position to be able to focus on major injury and death events.  This approach allows us to devote the time and resources necessary to pursue every ounce of justice for the seriously injured people we represent.”

BABICH RECALLS, “COMING OUT OF LAW SCHOOL in 1981, I was offered positions with insurance defense firms but I turned them down because it is just not who I am or what I wanted to do.  I’ve always been on the side of individuals, never insurance companies or corporations. My allegiance has always been to people.”

THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, BABICH HAS BEEN THE VOICE FOR THE INJURED, from pursuing trucking companies that cause carnage on the highways by disregarding the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; to representing a young woman who was raped in an apartment complex as a result of inadequate security; to serving the unique interests of a working man seriously injured when an elevator door opened to an empty shaft; to representing an elderly couple overcome by carbon monoxide due to faulty furnace repairs; to pursuing significant underinsured motorists’ benefits and unreasonable delay damages for a young man injured in a company vehicle.  Babich handled the recent appeal in a case where a mother was killed and her nine-year-old boy was hurt when a vehicle was able to travel unimpeded through a storefront unprotected by curbs, bollards, or other barriers at the shopping center.

“THESE ARE NOT YOUR GARDEN-VARIETY CASES,” Babich notes. “And to me that makes for very challenging, heroic, and important work.  It means that whatever advocacy and skill I am able to bring to bear will ultimately determine the future for people whose lives will never be the same again.”

GIVEN HIS FOCUS ON MAJOR INJURY AND DEATH CASES, Babich has naturally become preeminent in the area of trucking and commercial vehicle litigation, as those collisions often have devastating consequences for unsuspecting motorists on the highway.  His extensive work in the trucking area has led him to serve on the National Advisory Board for the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America (APITLA).  He is also author of a chapter on trucking litigation, as well as a chapter on Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage, in the Auto Litigator’s Handbook.  The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), which publishes Handbook, chose Babich as the editor of the entire Handbook.  In addition to his writing, Babich, has been elected by his peers to serve on CTLA’s Board of Directors for over 30 years.

“MY PHILOSOPHY IS THAT GREAT TRIAL LAWYERS strive to be very good in all aspects — human relationships; discovering and telling the story; the law; negotiating; brief writing; and trial skills,” Babich says.  Indeed, Babich is among an elite group of trial lawyers in the country privileged to attend the Trial Lawyers College to learn directly from Gerry Spence.

BABICH HAS ALSO BEEN SELECTED to: “Super Lawyers;” The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers; Best Attorneys of America; American Society of Legal Advocates: Top 100 Litigation Lawyer; Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum; AVVO 10.0 (highest) rating;  and has been AV Preeminent® rated by Martindale-Hubbell®, the organization’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards.
